Liposuction
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction involves making multiple small incisions, through which a cannula is passed to remove excess fat with a suction device. It is often done on the abdomen, thighs, upper arms, buttocks, male breasts, and under the chin.
If a large volume of fat needs to be removed, multiple surgeries may be required to achieve the desired effect.
Liposuction is a day-case procedure performed under general anaesthetic. To see where Dr Duncan Taylor operates in Perth, visit our contact page.
What Can I Expect With Liposuction:
A Quick Overview
Surgery time: 1 hour.
Length of stay in hospital: Day case.
Recovery time: (The following are approximate times.)
Driving 24 hours,
Office work 2 - 3 days,
Strenuous work/exercise 3 - 4 weeks.
Garments: Compression garments for the body area being operated on, to be worn 24/7 for 4 - 6 weeks
Incision and scar: Multiple small, less than 1 cm incisions to the areas required.
Other Things to Consider
-
Liposuction removes fat, but the skin itself will remain. For younger patients with good skin elasticity, the skin may tighten naturally with the help of compression garments. In some instances, patients may decide to have the excess skin removed with a surgical procedure.
-
Although not very painful, liposuction causes significant bruising - this subsides after 3 - 4 weeks.
