Gynaecomastia
What is Gynaecomastia?
Gynaecomastia is a condition in males that causes excessive growth of breast tissue. This can be from hormonal imbalance, genetics, obesity or certain medications. During this procedure, Dr Taylor will make an incision in the breast, remove excess tissue, and close the wound with sutures.
For patients with excess skin and a low-positioned nipple, a more comprehensive surgical approach can be undertaken. This procedure involves removing the redundant skin and repositioning the nipple to a higher location.
What Can I Expect with a Gynaecomastia?
A Quick Overview
Surgery time: 1.5 - 2 hours.
Length of stay in hospital: 0 - 1 night.
Recovery time: (The following are approximate times.)
Driving 2 days,
Office work 1 week,
Strenuous work/exercise 6 weeks.
Garments: A surgical compression bra will need to be worn 24/7 for 4 - 6 weeks
Incision and scar: The incision for simple size reduction gynaecomastia surgery is around the nipples. These incisions would be more extensive if a lift is also required.
Other Things to Consider
-
Treatment of this underlying condition must be treated prior to surgery.
-
You will have scars from this surgery.
-
If you have only a small amount of breast tissue and you are young with good skin elasticity, you may see good results from liposuction. This is less invasive and prevents scars.
